Tradição Católica, liderada pelos Padres da Igreja, tem considerado a Arca da Aliança como um dos símbolos mais ricos e mais pura das realidades da Nova Lei. Significa, em primeiro lugar, o Verbo de Deus encarnado. "O próprio Cristo", diz São Tomás de Aquino ", foi representado pela Arca Pois da mesma forma que a Arca era feita de madeira acácia, assim também era o corpo de Cristo composto da substância mais pura humana. A Arca era inteiramente cobertas de ouro, porque Cristo foi cheio de sabedoria e de caridade, que o ouro simboliza Na Arca havia um vaso de ouro:.. isto representa alma santíssima de Jesus contém a plenitude da santidade e da divindade, calculado pelo maná Houve também a vara de Arão, para indicar o poder sacerdotal de Jesus Cristo sacerdote para sempre. Finalmente as mesas de pedra da Lei foram igualmente contidas na Arca, para significar que Jesus Cristo é o autor da lei ". Para estes pontos tocados pelo Anjo das Escolas, pode ser acrescentado que a Ascensão de Cristo ao céu depois de Sua vitória sobre a morte eo pecado é figurado pela chegando da Arca de Sion. São Boaventura viu também na Arca uma representação mística da Sagrada Eucaristia. Da mesma forma a Arca poderia ser muito bem considerada como uma figura mística da Santíssima Virgem, chamada pela Igreja a "Arca da Aliança", foederis Arca. |

ARK OF THE COVENANT

It signifies, in the first place, the Incarnate Word of God.
"Christ himself", says St. Thomas Aquinas, "was signified by the Ark. For in the same manner as the Ark was made of setim wood, so also was the body of Christ composed of the most pure human substance. The Ark was entirely overlaid with gold, because Christ was filled with wisdom and charity, which gold symbolizes. In the Ark there was a golden vase: this represents Jesus' most holy soul containing the fullness of sanctity and the godhead, figured by the manna. There was also Aaron's rod, to indicate the sacerdotal power of Jesus Christ priest forever. Finally the stone tables of the Law were likewise contained in the Ark, to mean that Jesus Christ is the author of the Law".
To these points touched by the Angel of the Schools, it might be added that the Ascension of Christ to heaven after His victory over death and sin is figured by the coming up of the Ark to Sion.
St. Bonaventure has also seen in the Ark a mystical representation of the Holy Eucharist.
In like manner the Ark might be very well regarded as a mystical figure of the Blessed Virgin, called by the Church the "Ark of the Covenant"—Foederis Arca.
